We're on Helix, how about you?

SD42 now has a media library all its own - youtube on the Fraser if you like! To view the great video content available for use in your classroom, go to:

hml.sd42.ca

Login at the top right corner with your SD42 email username (First_Last), then your password and browse  the content.
There are various categories, but "Licenced Content" is where you'll find such videos as "Bill Nye", CBC Learning, CBC News in Review, and other great videos you can stream, or download for future use.
For Professional presentations see "Professional Learning".

Feel free to add your own content to share with other SD42 educators!

Bookfest 2012 was a huge success!

Thanks to all our enthusiastic and energetic TLs who reviewed possible books, organized, encouraged, co-ordinated, supervised, created resources, composed and collated questions, tabulated results, dressed in costumes, prepared bookmarks, collected gifts, and helped out in any way to make this year's event so successful. We appreciate your dedication and spirit!

Just keep on reading so we get some more great titles
for next year!

Kids love Graphic Novels,
and teachers love tools!

How can we help keep our students safe and savvy online?

Here is a great resource you can visit online, print and share, or order a copy from the URL below.

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada has created a graphic novel, Social Smarts: Privacy, the Internet and You
to help young Canadians better understand and navigate privacy issues in the online world. This 12-page graphic novel is designed to appeal to tweens and younger teens. Developed with feedback from youth, it tells the story of a brother and sister who learn (sometimes the hard way) about the privacy risks related to social networking, mobile devices and texting, and online gaming. The graphic novel includes detailed black and white illustrations so it can be easily reproduced by educators and parents.

District Resource Centre has a new home, and a new name ...

Remember SD42's "District Resource Centre"?
Well, we're now "The Learning Centre" and can be found at Riverside Centre, in the former Library of Riverside Elementary. We may have some old favourites, like great puppets, video content and kits, but we also have lots of great new resources, with useful learning tools being added daily. We're working on creating some new French "trousses" for Immersion classrooms, and professional reading kits for staff to get informed and inspired.

Feel free to drop by, give a call or make a booking online. We deliver! No tip required!

Call us at: 604-466-6555, ext. 212

To make an online booking, see your Teacher-Librarian who has login info to share with you.

Hope to see you or your booking soon!
